Points of View - Housing Chiefs Urge Tenants to Speak Out

The big question is coming to Wigan as housing chiefs prepare to seek the views of tens of thousands of tenants and residents on how happy they are with the services provided.

Wigan and Leigh Housing (WALH), the council's housing arms length management organisation (ALMO) hopes to use the information gained in its upcoming Tenants Satisfaction Survey to make further improvements.

Last satisfaction survey was carried out in 2000 and housing bosses responded to the answers by developing a number of highly successful new initiatives.

These have included:

WALH has employed the independent Northern Housing Consortium Ltd to conduct the survey, which is now being delivered to all 26,000 WALH properties.

Chief Executive Peter Gee said: "The answers will be treated in the strictest confidence and they will be used for research only. It will not be possible for any individual address or household to be identified in the findings."

Everyone completing the survey will also have the chance to be entered into a free prize draw to win one of five £50 prizes.

Joint WALH Chairman Cllr Steve Parker urged everyone to fill in the survey.

He said: "We are constantly striving to improve the services offered to our tenants but we cannot do is without their help."

Cllr Parker added: "We value the thoughts and opinions of our tenants. We listened to them three years ago during the last survey and made some major and lasting improvements.

"The survey should take only a few minutes to complete and we would say to tenants that WALH is your housing service so make the most of it and tell us what you think."

Tenants who have any questions about the survey or need help to complete it can call Ruth Anderson or Denise Blackburn on 01942 827403.
