When the Saints Go Cleaning Up!: The team from St Gabriel’s
clean–up Higher Fold.
St Gabriel’s RC Primary is top of the league when it comes to cleaning up.
The Leigh school is celebrating a successful environment week, which has made a real difference to Higher Folds.
And it’s all thanks to Higher Folds’ Tenants and Residents Association, who together with Wigan Council’s Street Scene Team, Groundwork Wigan and Chorley and Wigan and Leigh Housing, funded a local green week.
The children have not only tidied up after the litterbugs; they planted hundreds of bulbs ready to brighten up the spring.
The week ended with a gathering at St Gabriel’s Club, featuring willow weaving, bird box making and face painting.
Wigan Council’s People and Places assistant Vicky Bamber says:
“It’s lovely to see the community and local schools coming together to improve the local environment. Over the next few years we intend to carry out more bulb and tree planting to continue the improvements made.”
Nick Burdekin, People and Places manager adds:
“The bulb planting was really enjoyable despite the downpours! It could even have been a record–attempt as we manage to plant 1,300 crocus bulbs in just over 30 minutes! Everyone is really looking forward to a tidy Higher Folds today… and a blooming marvellous Higher Folds in the spring!”
