Jane Fennell and Dr Olojugba from Wigan Soroptimists handing over
presents to Barbara Mellor and Jenny Isherwood from the Accommodation
& Resettlement Team.
A local volunteer group is bringing Christmas cheer to homeless families in Wigan.
The local branch of the Soroptimists, the international volunteer group for business and professional women, is supporting Wigan & Leigh Housing’s (WALH) efforts to give children living in temporary accommodation a Christmas to remember.
Volunteers have delivered box fulls of goodies for WALH’s accommodation and resettlement team to distribute to children of all ages over the coming week.
Dr Olojugba of the Soroptimists explains:
“One of the key aims of the Soroptimists is to support our local community, and we are pleased that we can help in a small way to brighten up the lives of some families that will be facing a really difficult time this Christmas.”
Wigan & Leigh Housing Chief Executive, Peter Gee says:
“Homelessness is a growing problem in the borough and unfortunately some families find themselves without a home to call their own at probably the worst possible time. Donations from groups like the Soroptimists give a real boost to families in need over Christmas and their kindness is greatly appreciated by families who just cannot afford to buy presents in their current circumstances.”
