Wigan gets ship-shape

Wigan is set to get SHIP shape, with a major event promoting housing and other services to support independent living to the borough’s over 50s.

Wigan Town Hall is the venue on Tuesday 16th May for the annual Sheltered Housing & Information Partnership (SHIP) awareness day. The free event will showcase the many local organisations that provide services to the over fifties, with information and entertainment, and discussions and demonstrations and throughout the day.

Displays and entertainment will be running throughout the day, with the event showcasing the many local organisations that provide services to the over 50’s. Representatives from Age Concern, the Over 50s Forum and the Pension Service will be on hand,

Wigan Council’s Network Co-ordinator for Older People, Helen Coffey says:

“SHIP’s shaping up to be bigger and better than ever, and if you’re over 50 make sure you’re onboard. There will be lots to see and do, and free refreshments too.”

The one day event, to be visited by the Mayor and Mayoress of Wigan, will run from 10am – 3pm. The whole event is free and aimed particularly at the over 50s.
