Ship Ahoy!

Sheltered housing providers in Wigan borough are teaming up with Wigan Council to promote housing and other services available to the over 50s.

The borough's Sheltered Housing & Information Partnership (SHIP) is holding an awareness day at Ince Public Hall next Friday (14th May). And, to celebrate the formal naming of the Sheltered Housing & Information Partnership (SHIP), this year’s event will have a cruise ship theme, with displays and demonstrations taking place throughout the day.

The event will showcase many local organisations that provide services to the over 50’s. There will be interactive sessions of line dancing and tai chi, plus raffles and bingo too. Special guests are the popular Lancashire folk group Houghton Weavers.

Wigan Council's Older Persons' Network Co-ordinator, Helen Coffey says:

"The whole event is free, it's fun and there's food to enjoy as well. Last year's event proved hugely successful - now here we are again hoping that people will take the opportunity to find out what services are available to them within the borough. We are even running short trips to local sheltered housing schemes so that people can what's available from close quarters."

Wigan's Mayor and Mayoress, Councillor and Mrs Wilf Brogan, will be in attendance and the event will run from 10am–3pm. The following organisations are involved: Arena, County Palatine, English Churches, Hanover, Housing 21, Wigan & Leigh Housing and Wigan Council's Social Services Department.

Anyone wanting more information or help with transport to the venue should contact Helen Coffey on 01942 404501 or Julie Furnell on 01942 827964.
