All eyes will be on Norley Hall when the cameras start rolling (Tuesday October 5th) in a bid to cut crime and increase community safety.
CCTV (Closed Circuit Television) is going live in the area with 15 new cameras ready to zoom in on crime and anti–social behaviour.
The project has been funded through a grant of more than £120,000 from the Single Regeneration Budget (SRB6 One Stop for Regeneration).
The state–of–the–art new system includes ‘static’ cameras, which will concentrate on particular areas and fully–moveable ‘pan, tilt and zoom’ cameras.
The cameras will be in action 24–hours a day and controlled by council Community Safety experts at Wigan’s CCTV control room.

Norley Hall is the latest area in the borough to get hooked up to the council’s CCTV network, which is widely regarded as one of the best of its kind.
It is anticipated that the CCTV will improve the confidence of residents and reduce fear of crime that has been on the estate.
Wigan Council Cabinet Member for Community Safety Cllr Keith Cunliffe, said:
“This is great news for the residents of the Norley Hall estate. We know community safety has been one of biggest issues within the community for some time and residents have called for CCTV surveillance.
“The SRB6 board knew this was a priority issue for the community and we are delighted to be able to provide this facility for them.
“CCTV has proved its worth time and again in different parts of the borough. It has been used to help the police identify criminals and persistent trouble–makers and has given communities a greater sense of security.”
He added:
“We believe it will do the same for the people of Norley Hall.”
