Mosley Common’s Christmas carol treat

Christmas came to the Rowans sheltered housing scheme in Mosley Common this week, when local schoolchildren raised the rafters with Christmas carols.

Rowans residents were joined by neighbours from Lindale Road sheltered housing scheme and sang along with children from nearby St John’s and Holy Family primary schools to old favourites like 'Away in a Manger', 'Good King Wenceslas' and 'Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer'.

After the singing ended, each of the children was rewarded with a present from Father Christmas and a goody bag provided by the residents.

Claire Roberts, acting head at Holy Family said: "It was really nice for the two schools to come together like this to sing Christmas carols for the residents."

Warren George, headteacher at St John’s added: "It was a pleasure to see both residents and children enjoying each other’s company at Christmas time."

And Rowans manager Lynn Galley said: "It was a generous offer from the schools and it was great to see young and old having fun and singing Christmas carols together."

Colleague Diane Capp from Lindale Road added: "It’s good to bring members of the community together at Christmas. Our residents shed a few tears today but I’m sure that they were tears of joy!"
