Tearaway Told — ‘Behave Or Else!’

A teenager who attacked and terrorised residents of an Atherton estate has been ordered to behave or he could face jail.

Seventeen-year-old Daniel Millington of 65 Car Bank Street, Atherton, put his neighbours through two–years of torment. His campaign of intimidation and harassment led to two serious assaults, one which left a 40–year–old passer–by with a broken jaw.

Now Wigan and Leigh Housing (WALH) has brought Millington’s reign of terror to an end by successfully applying for an Anti Social Behaviour Order (ASBO) against him.

The ASBO was granted following a court hearing, which saw neighbours and residents speak out about Millington’s behaviour.

The two–year order bans Millington from entering Car Bank Square close to his home.

It also forbids him from being abusive, unruly or intimidating throughout Atherton.

He has been ordered not to harass or distress his neighbours, damage or threaten to damage property or use abusive or threatening behaviour against them.

WALH has urged neighbours and residents to immediately report any breaches of these conditions to the police. Millington could face up to five years in jail if he breaches the ASBO.

Wigan Council Cabinet Member for Community Safety Cllr Keith Cunliffe congratulated WALH’s Tenancy Relations Team for acting against Millington. Cllr Cunliffe said:

“This case and others before it prove that we will not stand idly by and watch our residents go through hell at the hands of an inconsiderate few.

“We have been given these powers to tackle Anti–social behaviour within our communities and we will not hesitate to use them.

“I commend the hard work of our Tenancy Relations Team for successfully applying for the ASBO and applaud those residents who had the courage to come forward and testify in court.”
