Worsley Hall Goes Nationwide

Holy Cross, the BBC Northern Ireland drama that was filmed in part in the borough over the summer, is to be aired on BBC1 next week.

Under the working title of Red and Blue, the production spent two weeks in the borough at several locations. A week of that was spent in the Poplar Avenue area of Worsley Hall, where the streets where transformed into the Ardoyne Road area of Belfast.

Holy Cross is a fictional drama set within the real events that surrounded the Holy Cross primary school in 2001. The show is to be screened on BBC1 on Monday 10th November at 9.00pm, and concludes after the news at 10.30pm.

Claire Duffy, film and television development officer for the borough, said:

“When you watch the show, nobody will realise that many of the scenes were filmed in the Wigan borough, and other north west locations, but are not Belfast. Both the council and the residents worked very closely with BBC Northern Ireland and I know all whose homes were transformed beyond recognition for that week will be keen to see the results on the screen. It was a unique experience for many people.”
