Hindley's Hollins edged out The Rowans from Mosley Common 4-3 on Monday to be crowned Wigan & Leigh Housing domino champions for 2005.
Teams from sixteen sheltered housing schemes all over the borough set out on the road to the Kildare Grange final, with The Hollins emerging victorious after a nail-biting tussle.
Residents from The Hollins celebrate their victory along with scheme manager Debbie Bulpitt, Marjorie Marsden and Janice Barton from Wigan & Leigh Housing.
Ken Berry, captain of The Hollins team said:
"We’ve had a lot of fun playing in the competition and we’re delighted that we managed to win. The tenants from The Rowans gave us a great match in the final and every match has been played in good spirits. We play the match then have a game of bingo, a cup of tea and a good chat and it’s been really enjoyable meeting people from other parts of the borough and finding out how much we have in common."
Wigan & Leigh Housing arranges a variety of activities for tenants in sheltered housing. Its Chief Executive, Peter Gee adds:
"The competition has enabled elderly tenants to get out and visit other schemes and build up new friendships. Tenants also get to visit parts of the borough that they may never have been to or may not have visited for many years. We are particularly pleased that several teams that were knocked out in the early stages of the competition have gone on to play friendly matches with other schemes."
