Extra cover for council tenants

Essential home contents insurance cover for council tenants is getting cheaper and easier than ever.

Wigan & Leigh Housing, the borough’s biggest social landlord, has negotiated improved cover for tenants at a lower price with current insurer Norwich Union. Existing home contents insurance scheme policy holders will pay 15% less and also have the option to upgrade to full accidental damage cover at competitive rates.

The new deal also gives tenants the added benefit of being able to pay their premium weekly along with their rent.

Wigan & Leigh Housing Chief Executive, Peter Gee says:

“We are delighted to have negotiated improved terms with Norwich Union on behalf of our tenants and we encourage all tenants who are not presently insured to contact us now to discuss the benefits. Insurance premiums generally are rising, but we offer cover from as little as 89 pence a week.”

“All too often people only come to appreciate the importance of adequate contents cover when valuable belongings are damaged or stolen. It is terrible to see the distressing impact these things have on people when they realise they have lost their possessions and don’t have any money to replace them.”

The new terms are available to all council tenants from 3rd July and tenants can also choose to upgrade to full accidental damage cover at competitive rates. Anybody wanting more details should contact Wigan & Leigh Housing on 01942 486625.
