Drug Dealer loses home

A family from Leigh have been evicted from their council home for drug dealing and anti-social behaviour.

The notorious Taylor family - Trevor Taylor, his partner and 11 year old child - from 39 Birch Road on the town's Trees estate, were evicted this week (Tuesday 31st January), following legal action by landlord Wigan & Leigh Housing.

Neighbours had experienced nuisance and intimidation since 34 year old Trevor Taylor and his family moved into the property last April. Police were alerted to the frequent visitors to the home by Wigan & Leigh Housing, and they carried out a search at the property in July. They discovered a stash of amphetamines, drugs 'paraphernalia' like electronic scales and small plastic bags, and a large amount of cash.

Trevor Taylor was convicted of possessing a controlled drug with intent to supply at Liverpool Crown Court in November where he received a two year community rehabilitation order.

By that time, Wigan & Leigh Housing had already begun possession proceedings against Mr Taylor, whose 'introductory' tenancy meant that like all new council tenants, he was effectively on 12 months probation.

The family ignored a seven day possession order granted by Leigh County Court on 11th January, leaving Wigan & Leigh Housing no option but to apply for an eviction warrant.

Peter Gee, Chief Executive of Wigan & Leigh Housing says:

"Nobody likes to see a family evicted, but Mr Taylor's behaviour - and its effect on his neighbours - gave us no alternative.

"We won't tolerate drug-dealing from our homes and with all kinds of dubious characters calling at 39 Birch Road at all hours of the day and night, it quickly became apparent what was going on.

"I would like to thank all those residents who, despite continuing problems, had the courage to support ourselves and the police by giving evidence against the people who were damaging their neighbourhood.

"Wigan and Leigh Housing is committed to taking action against any individual whose behaviour has a detrimental effect on the wider community. Our warnings and threats will be backed up with legal action if necessary."
