Across the great divide

Wigan’s generation gap was bridged in Beech Hill this week, when young and old came together at Greenfields sheltered housing scheme in Gidlow Lane.

Pupils from St John Fisher High School dropped in to their ‘adopted’ home for a picnic and a well-received performance by the school band.

The Wigan & Leigh Housing scheme has been ‘twinned’ with St John Fisher for 12 months – ever since Sacred Heart Church’s Saint Vincent de Paul Society members approached the school wanting to strengthen inter-generational ties. Since then, there have been regular exchanges between the two.
