Contractors working on the borough’s massive council housing modernisation programme are to receive special recognition for their efforts so far at a ceremony this week (Thursday, 11th March).
G & J Seddon and H T Forrest are working in the Golborne and Westleigh areas, and the Tyldesley, Hindsford and Leigh areas respectively. Latest figures show an incredible 97% tenant satisfaction rate with Seddon’s work, while Forest’s achieved the biggest improvement in tenant satisfaction in the last three months, moving up from 83% to 89%.
Seddon’s are carrying out external repairs, such as fitting new front doors, building new roofs and pointing, while Forrest’s are working on fencing and parking improvements.
Representatives from the firms will receive certificates celebrating their achievement from council tenants and Wigan & Leigh Housing board member Pat Cummins. She said:
“I was really impressed by the fact that over 98% of tenants were satisfied with the attitude of workers — it makes such a difference when people working around your home are polite and show respect.”
Wigan & Leigh Housing is carrying out a major improvements programme to council homes across the borough, with over £40 million spent in the last twelve months. Every time work is completed, tenants are asked to complete a satisfaction survey, commenting on the attitude of workers, the information they receive, how tidy things were left each night and, of course, on the finished work.
On average, more than 90% of tenants reply that they are either satisfied or very satisfied with the improvements. Each of the 10 contractors carrying out the improvements competes with the others to get the highest rating from tenants. Every three months the satisfaction scores are totalled up and the results reported.
