Charter for Success — Borough’s Housing Company Leads the Field

Staff at Wigan & Leigh Housing, the company that manages homes on behalf of Wigan Council, are celebrating today after learning that they have scooped a second top award in the space of a few months.

In April the company was awarded Investor in People status for the way it supports its staff. But, not content to rest on its laurels, it has now won the prestigious Chartermark award for excellent customer services.

Both awards followed a rigorous assessment by independent examiners.

Wigan & Leigh Housing has only been in existence for just over two years and is the first housing ‘arms length management organisation’ (ALMO) in the country to receive both awards in its own right.

Chief executive Peter Gee said:

“We are delighted to receive these awards. We are still a fairly new company and we have worked hard to improve our services. It is pleasing that we have been recognised for the way we deal with both our customers and our employees.

“We were praised for many of the things we have introduced and we have been given a few pointers to how we can provide an even better service to our customers in the future.”

Note to Editors

  1. ALMOs have been set up by local authorities across the country to manage their stock of council homes. Wigan has already qualified for £137m of government money to transform its 26,000 dwellings.
